Despite the fact that over 1.7 million children in the United States are known to have chronic pain and that the cost of treating this pain is almost 20 billion dollars per year, chronic pain remains an invisible and under recognized health problem for kids and teens.
Chronic pain also often includes a tremendous psychological and social burden; children with ongoing pain regularly miss school, are unable to participate in activities.
Children with chronic pain have reduced social relationships and as a result, they are three times more likely to have symptoms of anxiety depression and than children without pain.
Our WhyBowtie Kids was inspired and founded from the heart and passion of Karen Prescod. In the midst of her own struggles and challenges, with chronic pain, she had the vision to create a non-profit to support children who suffer, along with their families.
Our WhatWe provide social and emotional learning so that children and their families impacted by chronic pain can live an empowered, fully expressed life.
